NYC Library Budget cuts and Adult English Classes

NYTimes article on Libraries and Adult Ed. Classes

The libraries in metropolitan areas often provide more than just books and reading material to the masses. They are often a place where special services are provided such as Adult Education English classes. In the article, a director of the program in charge of teaching the classes states “The library does not ask for any documentation, which makes coming there unthreatening.” The supply is always outstripped by the demand and there is always a waiting list for these sorts of classes. Its a part of the American dream to be able to come here, learn the language and grow and prosper. Its sad that this program is being placed on the cutting board in an attempt to reduce the 37 million dollar budget shortfall in NYC for the public libraries.

Book Porn

Book Shelf Porn

Someone made tumblr blog and its just pictures of bookshelves… some small bookshelves, some big book shelves, some tastefully done, and some just jammed in there… No matter how big or small, a bookshelf is always beautiful.

Grateful Dead 84-7-13 at the Greek Theater

I fell in love with the band Phish in college, saw them a few times, most notably the NYE2000 show in Florida. Because of this love of Phish, I have been exposed to the Grateful Dead over a period of time. I never really found a ton of shows that I liked, but I still downloaded them from time to time. Outside of a few Dicks Picks albums, this is an amazing show.

As part of an on going project to personally archive music shows that I enjoy and would like to save, I have decided to start sharing the links to these shows on my personal file server for those who wish to enjoy them as well.

  • A link to a review of the show
  • A link to the directory where you can download the show from my server
